In this Ministry Enrichment Seminar led by attorney Dennis Kasper, we will examine the legal difference between an employee and a volunteer, the wage and hour laws and how they apply to employees, the rules addressing discrimination, and the tax benefits that exist for ordained clergy. We will also discuss two main issues concerning real estate: Can denominations prevent local congregations from leaving the denomination and taking their property? And: Can communities use zoning laws to limit church ministries? More and more communities are trying to restrict the growth of churches, or to keep them from being established in the first place.
