The
Richmond Times-Dispatch in Richmond, Virginia, ran an
article on Sunday, February 5, featuring Fuller Associate Provost and Professor of Youth, Family and Culture
Chap Clark. The story, entitled “Life Notes: Inside the World of Teens,” focused on the differences between today’s teens and those of past generations, calling on Clark for his expertise.
“The world that adults lived in during their high school, college and early adult years is long gone,” Clark commented. “It’s a completely different experience developmentally and culturally today.”
Clark cites the prevalence of social media and the decline in “non-agenda driven focus” from adults as factors negatively affecting today’s teens. He observed, “There are so few adults who take the time or even have the ability or desire to invest in kids without some kind of agenda, that (most) kids don’t have enough adults modeling how to become an adult.”
The
Richmond Times-Dispatch notified readers of a talk Clark will give on Thursday, February 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia. In his talk, “Inside the World of Today’s Teenagers,” Clark will offer solutions as well as encouragement to parents to stick together and support not only their own children, but other families as well.
