Representatives from the Game Show Network (GSN) visited Fuller’s
Pasadena campus on May 16, 23, and 30, seeking Bible enthusiasts to be cast in a
new show, “The American Bible Challenge.” Developed by the creators of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition," the new game show will be hosted by Jeff
Foxworthy. Contestants will compete to win money for a local charity of
their choosing.
The
show’s directors held the auditions in Travis Auditorium, where several teams of Fuller students and alumni answered interview questions, shared
testimonies, and had an opportunity to express their competitive spirit.
The
first team from Fuller to audition was made up of three students working toward
a Master of Divinity degree: Heather Thomsen, Adam Jones, and George Ratchford.
Thomsen shared that Clay Schmit, Arthur
DeKruyter/Christ Church Oak Brook Professor of Preaching, encouraged the three
friends to audition. “I think he knew we are silly enough to be on TV,” she
added.
“When I heard ‘game show’ and ‘Jeff
Foxworthy,’” said Ratchford, “I thought, fun!” The team, who have worked
together on class projects, character sermons for church, and played on
Fuller’s intramural sports teams, are hoping to raise money for Northland
Village Church, a new church plant in Atwater Village, California, pastored
by Fuller alum Nick Warnes.
Contestants for the show will be named and tapings held over the summer, with plans for the show to debut in the fall.
