In this article by The
Christian Post, President Richard Mouw is among many evangelical leaders
across the country that signed a statement of principles initiated by the
Evangelical Immigration Table, calling for bipartisan immigration reform,
January 14. The principles are:
“Respecting the God-given dignity of every person, protecting the unity of the
immediate family, respecting the rule of law, guaranteeing secure national
borders, ensuring fairness to taxpayers, and establishing a path to legal
status or citizenship for current unauthorized immigrants.”
The intent of the statement of principles, as described by
Dr. Bill Hamel, president of Evangelical Free Church of America, is designed to,
“provide a framework that will help members of Congress think through the
issues as they work on immigration legislation.”
To bring awareness to their cause, the Evangelical
Immigration Table has organized a prayer challenge, called “I was a stranger,”
encouraging Christians to read and reflect on 40 passages about immigration.
