Admissions Counselor (Fuller Southwest, Arizona)

Reports To: Fuller Southwest Director; VP of Enrollment
Summary:
The Admissions Counselor (AC) is responsible for managing relationships between prospective students and the institution in the SW region. The AC represents Fuller Southwest at different recruiting events and participates in lead generation ventures. The AC is in charge of managing direct contact and cultivation of prospective students as well as helping them discern their call to seminary, developing and executing recruiting strategies, and establishing relationships and support from local churches and denominations including other Christian organizations. The AC also has administrative duties that help the campus run smoothly.

Essential Functions:
The continuous flow of new students into Fuller Southwest is essential for its continued growth and wellbeing. The AC is the primary contact with prospective students and is responsible for the following areas:
 
Recruiting 
  • Initiate meetings with qualified prospective students and encourage them to apply
  • Seek referrals of prospective students from alums, students, pastors, and the community
  • Develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan in consultation with the Director and VP of Enrollment Management
  • Plan prospective student events in Phoenix Area and Arizona.  Organize and execute event, delegating roles and responsibilities as appropriate
  • Attend recruiting events, pastors meetings and other awareness events (speak at Christian organizations etc.) to help promote FSW (weekend events included)
  • Collaborate with the Director and VP of Enrollment Management to establish performance goals, priorities, and strategic plans
  • Keep Fuller Southwest up to date and aware of recruiting opportunities around the Valley
  • Recommend, plan, and execute special projects in conjunction with goals and objectives
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, assess outcomes, and recommend improved programming to achieve goals and complete cost analyses, for programs and events
  • Manage web development and upkeep including social media as it relates to both recruitment and admissions
  • In conjunction with the Director and the VP for Enrollment Management develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan
  • In conjunction with the Director, develop strategy for establishing church relationships and alumni networking for recruiting purposes including but not limited to: 
    • Acts as the primary contact between churches and alumni network
    • Assist Director with networking and establishing partnerships with area ministries and local churches
    • Assist Director in determining places to speak
    • Work with staff and volunteers to assist in building a network of relationships, linkage, and interest of prospects
     
 
Admissions 
  • Proactively engage and follow up with prospective students to encourage them through the inquiry/admissions process through matriculation
  • Encourage campus visits and conduct face-to-face meetings with prospective students
  • Act as primary contact with Pasadena Campus Admissions office
  • Compile and mail general information, admissions materials, and other program information as requested
  • Explain course options, and assist inquirers in clarifying degree goals
  • Advise inquirers on policies, procedures and deadlines regarding admissions, registration, academic advising, field education, financial aid, etc.
  • Record all communication and receipt of application materials in SRM. Once accepted record information in iCare
  • Create and maintain files for all applicants
  • Inform students of admission status
  • Refer students to Advisor for Academic Advising
  • Keep Assistant Director/Director up to date on prospective students
  • Complete routine reports related to admissions, recruitment, projections, personal schedule, travel, special programs, and professional development
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, assess outcomes, and recommend improved programming to achieve goals and complete cost analyses, for programs and events
  • Responsible for coordinating the registration process for new students (non-matriculated student) including being in charge of the new student orientation
 
Marketing 
  • In conjunction with the SW Director and VP for Enrollment Management, develop and implement overall marketing scheme and specific program development for Phoenix Area and Arizona
  • Coordinate all marketing efforts and needs on behalf of FSW with Fuller’s central marketing strategy
  • Assist Director with all advertising including special cooperative events, in house brochures and posters
  • Assist Director with branding to create consistency and recognition
  • Responsible for quarterly newsletter, bulletin inserts and marketing campaigns as well as assisting designing and distributing marketing/recruiting materials
 
Administration 
 
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Answering/screening incoming phone calls and greeting visitors
  • Update iCare as needed and keep admissions informed of changes including updating all addresses from returned mail
  • Assist with mailing and correspondence as needed
  • Secondary responsibility, when available, provide assistance to the staff and other duties as required
 


Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
  • B.A./B.S. or three to five years of experience in related field. (Seminary experience desirable)
  • Marketing and recruiting experience a plus
  • Joy-filled faith rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ
  • Servant heart and a cooperative nature
  • Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with people on the phone, email, and in person (in English)
  • Ability to schedule and work independently, prioritize work-flow, and schedule production
  • A team player who can also work with little supervision
  • Ability to independently make contact with prospects in admissions and advancement
  • Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, database, etc. Desktop publishing a plus
  • Ability to track contacts using a database
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Willingness to travel/drive and work some weekends and nights
  • Ability to learn and apply institutional policies and procedures and understand and explain the vision of Fuller Southwest
  • Pastoral care skills and ability to give academic guidance to prospective students
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (including weekends) if necessary for recruiting purposes
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds up to shoulder level and raise 5 to 10 pounds over the head
  • Ability to travel during the year
  • Strong networking skills
  • Must have an outgoing personality and be able to engage people in conversation
  • Strong public-speaking skills
  • Ability to focus on relationships, while still being able to accomplish necessary tasks
