The CEB Study Bible has been honored with Christian Retailing magazine's award for “Best Devotional or Study Bible of 2014.”
The study Bible, based on the Common English Bible translation and published by Abingdon Press, was edited by Fuller Theological Seminary’s Joel Green. Dr. Green, currently associate dean of the Center for Advanced Theological Studies and professor of New Testament interpretation at Fuller, will become dean of Fuller’s School of Theology on July 1.
Mignon Jacobs, associate professor of Hebrew and associate provost for accreditation and educational effectiveness at Fuller Seminary, was an associate editor of the study Bible. A number of other professors from Fuller served as contributors to the project, including J. Andrew Dearman, David Downs, J. R. Daniel Kirk, Kyong-Jin Lee, Pamela Scalise, Love Sechrest, and Marianne Meye Thompson.
The CEB Study Bible, according to the publisher, “gives you the tools, illustrations, and explanations necessary for making informed decisions about the meaning of the Bible. The notes in this study Bible don't tell you what to believe. Instead, they give you the context for what the books of the Bible meant to their earliest readers and what the Bible means right now.”
Amazon reviewer S. Purdum writes, “The ‘study’ (commentary) part of the CEB Study Bible gets right to the point and is keyed to the significant parts of the biblical text. It includes the conclusions of modern scholarship without gutting the faith message of the scripture, thus making this study Bible a good choice both for reading to understand and for reading for spiritual growth and meditation.”
According to the awards website, winners of the Christian Retailing Awards are chosen by Christian retailers, publishers, church store managers, and others “actively engaged in the Christian products industry.”
“Voters,” they say, “were asked to judge the nominations on their impact, including their ability to speak to people's hearts and evoke emotion; open people's minds to new ways of thinking; and encourage and affirm Christ-like living."
The Christian Retailing Awards—formerly known as the Retailers Choice Awards—were introduced in 2001 and are presented annually at the International Christian Retail Show.
