Christyn works as the Adult Ministries Director at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church-a "dream job" she found through Fuller's job posting network. Here's what she shared with us:
What brought you to Fuller Texas?
I had heard Fuller mentioned for years-that it was a gracious, innovative, and theologically grounded place to study and grow spiritually. I was so hungry to know God more, to uncover history and theology and life-changing applications within Scripture . . . and to explore all of this in a place that didn't have a hint of suspicion about being a "woman in ministry."
What have you gotten out of your Fuller experience so far?
The lessons I'm learning in each class-whether Bible, language, history, leadership, theology, or culture—find their way into every page of the small groups curriculum at the church where I work. If I take a class on Christology you can bet that our Lenten small groups focus will be infused with quotes and ideas learned in the course! In fact, re-launching our Lenten small group focus three years ago started as a class project and has grown into one of the most unifying events our church does all year.
Anything else about you?
I'm what you might call an accidental ministry leader. I never thought I was wise enough, smart enough, kind enough, or well-behaved enough to lead within the church. I have been amazed at how opening myself up to growing in my faith through learning—one of my favorite things!—has completely changed the course of my life. My relationship with God has become richer and more nuanced through the community and studies at Fuller. So my advice to anyone considering Fuller is to give it a chance. That nudge might be God calling you, too.
