Fuller Arizona's Tom Parker Joins Faith and Business Leaders in Calling for Immigration Reform

Tom Parker - Director of Fuller Seminary Arizona - at the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce after asking Congress for immigration reform

In a public call for immigration reform, a group of Arizona business leaders and evangelical pastors, including Tom Parker, Director of Fuller Seminary Arizona, gathered at the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning in a united message to Congress for immigration reform.

The event was sponsored by Bibles, Badges, and Business, a project of the National Immigration Forum and the National Immigration Forum Action Fund. Similar calls for immigration reform were also being held at other press conferences around the country in the states of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, and Idaho. The goal of the press conferences was to bring together the concerns of faith groups praying for immigration reform, as well as business groups which emphasize the need for immigration reform to meet the needs of our growing economy.

On behalf of many in the faith community of Phoenix, Parker stated at the press conference: "The Bible is filled with immigrants -- all people created equal in the image of God. We see this (immigration reform) as an important issue as a matter of gospel. We can continue to be a light bearing country, a country that stands out for how we treat others."

The goal of the nine business leaders and three Christian leaders -- including Parker -- was to appeal to Congress to pass immigration reform during the summer of 2014: "All our agendas are ultimately about how we treat other people," said Joe Sigg of the Arizona Farm Bureau. "We have a commonality of solutions, and while we come together because it is the right thing to do, we stay together because we have found effective solutions."

The press conference was covered by a wide range of Arizona media including AZCentral.com, 550 KFYI, 91.5 KJZZ, and 92.3 KTAR.
