Building Specialist - Locksmith

Building Specialists perform routine maintenance/repairs and installations involving all trades on campus buildings, such as light carpentry, basic repair plumbing, and general building maintenance. The primary responsibility of this position is maintaining door hardware and the master key system. This position is also responsible for creating nameplates, door and directional placards, and other miscellaneous signage.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for creating name plates, door and directional placards, and other miscellaneous signage
  • Maintain door hardware and the master key system
  • Maintain orderly and accurate records of work assignments
  • Maintain equipment and maintenance vehicles in a professional manner
  • When required, work with other Building Specialists to accomplish larger or more complicated assignments
  • Maintain orderly and accurate records of activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Secondary Functions

  • Be able to perform entry level tasks such as carpentry and basic plumbing repair
  • Perform general building maintenance tasks as needed


  • Vocational training as a locksmith
  • High School diploma or successful completion of trade school program
  • Minimum four years of general construction experience
  • Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
  • Computer literate with experience in Excel and Word
  • Ability to:
    • Work well as part of a team
    • Follow verbal and written instructions, be well mannered, have a professional appearance, and have good communication skills
    • Work well with Fuller employees and vendors to accomplish larger more complicated assignments
    • Lift and carry 40-50 pounds dead weight from the floor level
    • Handle and climb a 32-foot fiberglass ladder
    • Safely drive work vehicles and have a valid CA driver's license
    • Safely operate power tools commonly utilized in the trades and have a basic understanding of OSHA safety regulations
