Julie Gorman, professor of Christian formation and discipleship, began teaching at Fuller in 1984 and helped the seminary develop its coursework on the topic of spiritual formation.  Prior to joining Fuller, Gorman served for 20 years as pastor of adults, families, and small groups at churches in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas.  

She has authored Community That Is Christian (2nd ed., 2002) and numerous books on small group leadership, and was an associate editor of Baker Books' Evangelical Dictionary of Christian Education (2001).  Gorman has also contributed chapters to significant texts on Christian education and published numerous articles on teaching, building Christian community, spiritual formation, development and aging, and ministry to children and families.  She currently serves as editor for book reviews in the Christian Education Journal and is working on a book entitled Knowing God Through His Gift of Years.

Gorman has been a consultant, a speaker at conferences and seminars, and a member of various professional boards, including the North American Professors of Christian Education, from whom she received the prestigious Outstanding Christian Educator Award in 2002.  In 2004, the Christian Education Journal identified her as one of six women who helped shape evangelical Christian education in the later 20th century.  Gorman’s courses emphasize an experiential orientation to learning, rooted in biblical truth.
