MA in Theology (MAT)

The MA in Theology degree is a two-year graduate theological program covering a wide range of general and specialized subjects.

This degree prepares students for leadership in a wide range of vocations by cultivating skills in the study and interpretation of Scripture. It enables students to fashion a systematic theological framework, and develop an understanding of the origin and growth of the Christian tradition in all its richness and diversity.

Students in this program desire to be well prepared biblically and theologically in a very flexible program to serve in the church or the marketplace more effectively.

Further Studies
The MA in Theology degree can serve as an academic prerequisite for doctoral studies. If interested in PhD studies, you may choose one of the following emphases: Biblical Studies and Theology, Theology and the Arts, Christian Ethics, or Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Literature, which provide preparation for consideration to a PhD program. Please consult the requirements for your desired doctoral program to ensure this degree meets the academic prerequisites for admission.

Students may take up to eight courses through Distributed Learning (some departmental limits apply).

Normal Progression
The MA in Theology degree can be completed in two years. However, many students pursue the program on a part-time basis and thereby extend their study over a longer period of time. In addition to the daytime schedule and normal ten-week quarters, a full range of evening courses and intensive ten-day courses are offered regularly, making possible a flexible program of study.

Ministries
The degree prepares students for work in the church, parachurch, or the marketplace.

Locations
The MA in Theology degree can be earned in Pasadena, as well as the regional campuses, including Colorado Springs, Houston, Irvine, Menlo Park, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Seattle. Partial coursework can be done at any Fuller campus or via Distributed Learning.
