MA in Recovery Ministry

Quarter Units Required: 96

The MA in Recovery Ministry degree is designed for people who wish to develop their understanding and skills in working with those affected by addiction and/or abuse.

Distinctives
This degree is a specialized ministry degree program designed to prepare the student for ministries in churches and parachurch organizations.  It develops the future recovery ministries specialist to work with persons in situations of addictions and abuse.

Typical Students
Some students have personal experience with recovery or come from families where addiction or abuse was an issue but others do not.  Anyone interested in learning to respond in helpful ways to the issues of addiction and abuse would benefit.

Normal Progression
The MA in Recovery Ministry degree can be completed in two years.  However, many pursue the program on a part-time basis and thereby extend their study over a longer period of time.  In addition to the daytime schedule and normal ten-week quarters, a full range of evening courses and intensive ten-day courses are offered regularly, making possible a flexible program of study.

Ministries
Because addiction and abuse are among the largest public health problems on the planet, understanding the dynamics of these problems should be helpful in any and all ministry settings.  Addiction and abuse are everywhere.  It is difficult to do ministry of any kind without feeling the impact of these problems.

Further Studies
Some students go on to seek certification as a Chemical Dependency Counselor (e.g. NADAAC) or pursue further graduate education in addiction studies.

Locations
The complete MA in Recovery Ministry degree can be earned in Pasadena.  Partial coursework can be done at any Fuller campus or via distance learning.

Online Options
Students may take up to four courses through distance learning.
