School-Wide Scholarships 

School of Intercultural Studies Alumni/ae Scholarship: This scholarship’s recipients are chosen on the basis of merit.  

Angehr/Westbrook/McMillen Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to students who maintain a 3.5 GPA, show evidence of a life of Christian leadership, and demonstrate financial need.  

School of Intercultural Studies Auxiliary Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who are enrolled at least half-time, are preparing for ministry, and who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.  

Glenn and Margaret Barker Memorial Scholarship: This fund was established by Glenn W. Barker, first Provost of the seminary, in loving memory of his wife Margaret. After his death the fund was expanded and is provided as an investment in seminarians to assist in financing their education for future ministry.  

Barnabas Scholarship: This endowed fund has been established for School of Theology and School of Intercultural Studies students. It is the intent of the donors that the recipients not only benefit financially, but that the grants serve to illustrate the biblical model of Barnabas, who was a quiet enabler.

Heather Marie Bergman Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to second career African American women.

Call Family Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to students who have a genuine commitment to Jesus Christ and a deep commitment to integrate faith and training.

Hugh and Hazel Darling Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to students who attend full-time and demonstrate significant financial need.
  

DePree-Eagles Fellowship: The SIS Dean and the Director of the DePree Leadership Center choose the recipients of this merit-based fellowship.  

John Dhanaraj Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a second year student who is committed to serving in international missions.  

Dunnavant/Reeves Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to master’s-level students who maintain a 3.80 GPA and can clearly articulate personal ministry goals.  

Rose R. and Genevieve Galuteria Christian Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to master’s-level students who have a genuine commitment to Jesus Christ and a deep commitment to integrate faith and training. Preference is given to Hawaiian or international students.  

Great Commission: Awardees of this scholarship, which provides tuition reimbursement as well as assistance in repaying loan debt, must satisfy the following requirements: be a US citizen or permanent resident who is actively preparing to serve internationally, maintain a 3.25 GPA, be enrolled full-time and preparing to complete their degree within 9 quarters, and have 36 units completed by the end of current year’s spring quarter.  Preference will be given to students with prior mission and cross-cultural experience.  

Hubbard Merit Award: This scholarship’s recipients are chosen on the basis of merit.  

George and Della Hummel Scholarship Fund: Established by Mrs. Della Hummel, this scholarship is given to a master’s-level student who desires to integrate faith and training and who demonstrates financial need.  

International Student Scholarship: Given by Janet Holdcroft, out of concern about developing Christian leadership among nationals in Third World countries, this grant is awarded to a non-U.S. student who plans to return to his or her home country upon graduation.  

Johnston/Yinger Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to second or third year students who demonstrate financial need and display an interest in evangelism, Christian formation, and discipleship in a cross-cultural context.  

Korean Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to master’s-level students (Americans or Korean nationals) who demonstrate a good balance between the ministry of church leadership and human caring. In addition, recipients must show a strong commitment to bridge-building, healing, and serving the community within the church, and must work in a church in the greater Los Angeles area.  

Dong Sum Lim Scholarship: Awardees of this scholarship must be able to articulate their call to missions and demonstrate financial need.  

Hugh and Hasel Darling Scholarship (Loder Scholarship): This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who demonstrate financial need.  

Mildred C. McCrossan Memorial Scholarship: Given by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCrossan and Mr. David McCrossan in honor of their mother and wife in recognition of her concerns for the local church and its leaders, this grant is awarded to a student who plans to work with a frontier mission in evangelism and church planting.  

McGavran Scholarship: This scholarship, chosen on the basis of merit, is awarded to students who are dedicated to the growth of the Church.  

Mr. and Mrs. J.E. McGill Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to master’s-level student who demonstrate financial need and are in training for a pastoral or missional vocation with the intention of serving internationally.  Preference is given to international students and to those training for ministry in developing countries.  

Jerry and Nancy Owsley Scholarship Award: Established in memory of Jerry and Nancy Owsley by their children, this award is given to third-world students in the School of Intercultural Studies who plan to return to their native countries to minister upon graduation.  

Pioneers: Awardees of this scholarship must be current members of PIONEERS for a minimum of three years and be actively involved in mission among the Muslim population.  Preference is given to students in the Muslim Studies concentration.  

James Morton Reid/Sally Samuelson Scholarship: Established by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Samuelson, this grant is awarded to second-year students in the School of Intercultural Studies who are preparing for local church ministry.  

Duane and Kathryn Renken Scholarship:  This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a genuine commitment to Jesus Christ and a motivation by the Holy Spirit to integrate their faith and training to glorify God.  

Ruth Scholarship for Women: This scholarship is awarded to female students who maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.  

School of Intercultural Studies Korean Scholarship: Requirements for this scholarship are determined by the Korean Studies Program.  

Trowbridge Leadership Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership potential.  

Viva Network Scholarship: Recipients of this scholarship must be current associates of Viva Network for a minimum of three years and be actively involved in work with children at risk.  Preference is given to student in the Children at Risk concentration.  

Bobs Watson Scholarship: This scholarship provides financial assistance to those students who maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better and are able to articulate how the Gospel can be communicated through the media and the arts.  

Barbara Ann Wilson Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a black woman over 30 years of age who is preparing for ministry.  

Young-Nak Mission Scholarship: This scholarship provides assistance to Korean students who are preparing for mission services with preference for those who plan to serve in North Korea.  

Doctoral Level Scholarships 

Charles and Jean Beckmann Scholarship Fund: This fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beckmann to assist School of Intercultural Studies students who intend to return to their country of origin to communicate the Gospel more effectively to those of their own culture.  

Julie Banks Memorial Scholarship: Recipients of this scholarship must be Australian nationals who have three or more years of work and ministry experience and are enrolled as Ph.D. or D.Miss students.  They must also be able to demonstrate how their interests and ministry goals focus on an interface between the Church and society.  Preference will be given to students who plan to return to Australia upon completion of their degree.  

Oi-Jen Tsin Chan Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is given to an international student from a developing country whose ministry plans include returning to their home country after completion of their program. Preference is given to students from China.  (Ph.D. only)  

Bronson International Scholarship: Endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bronson, this scholarship assistance is provided for foreign nationals who plan to return to their home country to more effectively communicate the Gospel to those of their own culture.  

Walter and Reba Dilworth Scholarship: The Dilworth Scholarship is intended for an international visa student in a Ph.D. or D.Miss program in the School of Intercultural Studies program.  They must show high academic achievement as well as financial need.  This student must have defined plans for ministering in their home country.  

Margaret Gallagher Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to international visa students from developing nations who are enrolled as Ph.D. or D.Miss students and who plan to return to their home country upon completion of their degrees.  Applicants must also be able to describe their plans for ministering in their home country.  

Global Studies Scholarship: Awardees of this scholarship must be US citizens who are enrolled as Ph.D. students in at least 16 units in the school year, demonstrate financial need, and are able to describe their plans for ministry.  

J. Edward Headington Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is given to an international student from a developing country whose ministry plans include returning to their home country after completion of their program.  (Ph.D. only) 

Paul and Betty Honzik Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to international visa students who are enrolled as Ph.D. students and who are members of the Presbyterian denomination and plan to return to their home countries upon completion of their degrees.  Applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need.  

Oscar and Ailene Lucksinger Scholarship: This scholarship is given to an international student from a developing country whose ministry plans include returning to their home country after completion of their program.  (Ph.D. only) 

Daniel and Pearl Pierson Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is given to an international student from a developing country whose ministry plans include returning to their home country after completion of their program.  

School of Intercultural Studies International Fellowship: Recipients of this fellowship must be international visa students from developing nations who are enrolled as Ph.D. students and who have plans, which they are able to describe, to return to their home countries to minister.  

Women’s Jubilee Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to female international visa students from developing countries who are enrolled as Ph.D. students and who have plans, which they are able to describe, to return to their home countries to minister.
