Visiting Scholars

If you are an international faculty invited by Fuller Seminary to teach in Pasadena or one of its regional campuses, and need visa information, please go to Portico.

About the Visiting Scholar Program
International scholars and pastors who wish to pursue post-doctoral research and writing during a sabbatical or study leave may apply for visiting scholar status at Fuller Seminary. An earned doctorate and/or teaching experience in theological education are not required, but are preferred. Please note that the number of visiting scholar posts are limited. 

If accepted as a visiting scholar, Fuller seminary will provide:

  • Access to Fuller’s library
  • Access to Portico – Fuller’s online services
  • Access to doctoral seminars and class lectures (with the written approval of the professor and if space is available; no credits will be given)
  • Visiting Scholar ID

 Fuller Seminary does NOT provide:

  • Travel allowance
  • Parking and other transportation expenses
  • Stipend, scholarship, or other financial assistance for your research and/or study
  • Health insurance
  • Office space
  • Housing

How to Apply
If you are interested in pursuing the possibility of coming to Fuller as a visiting scholar, please submit a letter of interest to the Provost Office listing the following information: 

  • Dates you are requesting to be on campus
  • Description of the specific topic, research, or study you will be pursuing while at Fuller

In addition, you will need to provide a complete vita that includes

  • Home institution and Academic rank or title
  • Highest degree earned
  • Nationality
  • Publications

Letters of recommendation are also welcomed.

All documents should be sent a minimum of three to six months prior to your intended start date. You can mail the documents to:

Information about Visas
If you are an international scholar residing outside the United States and have been accepted as a Visiting Scholar by Fuller Seminary, you may be eligible for a J-1 (Exchange Visitor Program) visa.
