Financial Aid
Satisfactory Academic Progress

FASAP Policy
To be eligible for seminary and federal financial aid, you must meet the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (FASAP). Measurements are taken once each quarter. Federal regulations require the Office of Financial Aid to measure your academic progress each quarter in two ways:

  1. Cumulative GPA.
All students who have attempted more than 16 units must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or better.

  2. Class Completion Rate
The percentage of classes you have successfully completed at Fuller Seminary is calculated. Federal regulations require the seminary to use your complete enrollment history at Fuller, including courses from prior degree programs, in the calculation. The formula used is:

Earned Units / (Attempted Units - Excluded Units) = Percentage of successfully completed units.

    • Earned Units are the units granted for a course at the time of the calculation.
    • Attempted Units are all units not officially dropped.
    • Excluded Units include the following:
      • In Process (IP) grades
      • Hold (H) grades
      • Withdrawal (W) grades
      • All zero-unit (0) classes, such as ESL classes
      • Transfer credits - only Fuller Seminary units are included in the calculation.

Consequences of Failing
Failing the FASAP can adversely affect your eligibility for current and future financial aid. If you fail a measurement, you will not be eligible to receive seminary grants or scholarships, federal student loan funds, Perkins loan funds, and Federal Work-Study funds until you regain eligibility or a petition is approved on your behalf. Even if your petition receives approval, you may not be eligible to receive funds from past quarters.

FASAP Petition Policy
Federal regulations limit the type of circumstances in which a FASAP waiver may be granted due to:

  • death in the family
  • illness or medical emergency
  • other performance factors beyond your control.

To petition, you must submit the following documentation:

  • A letter explaining the exceptional circumstances that affected your ability to meet the FASAP requirements.
  • A resolution or plan of action explaining how you will assure future academic success.
  • A statement from your academic advisor confirming your ability to meet the FASAP requirements.
  • Documentation of illness or medical condition. You must provide a letter from your attending physician confirming that your condition will no longer hinder your ability to succeed academically. The letter must include the dates the condition occurred. The dates must coincide with the period in which you failed to meet FASAP requirements.

The Policy Review Team will review the petition or, if the team is unable to convene, the director of the Office of Financial Aid will make a decision and notify you of a decision within 30 days of submission. Decisions of the Policy Review Team or director are final.
