Motherhood, Hope, and Eternal Change

As a mother of two, I have certainly experienced the feelings of joy and anticipation that come with the expectation of giving birth. I can only imagine what Mary must have felt upon learning that she had been chosen to carry a very special child named Jesus. 
 
Motherhood was Mary’s vocation. In answering the call and surrendering completely her life to the will of God, the world was changed forever.
 
Most mothers believe that their children are unique and that their lives are not without purpose. To know, however, that your child will literally save the world has to be an overwhelming realization.
 
As a Jesus follower, I have always found the Christmas season to be a special one. I must say, however, that the process of becoming a mom has made this time of year all the more meaningful. Christmas reminds me of how much our Lord loves little children. I realize now just how much hope one child can bring to a world. 
 
On December 22, our family will celebrate the three-year anniversary of our eldest daughter’s birth. My experience as a first-time mom changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined.
 
On December 25, we shall celebrate the birth of Mary’s son—a child whose birth brought with it true hope and a promise of change that will last throughout eternity.
