John Goldingay:
Sharing a Passion for the Word
“I am fanatically and fervently enthusiastic,” says Professor John Goldingay, “about every aspect of studying the Old Testament and its significance for the church today.”
Dr. Goldingay, Fuller's David Allan Hubbard Professor of Old Testament, is sharing that enthusiasm with a broader readership than ever with his newest book releases, Parts 1 and 2 of Genesis for Everyone. Published by Westminster John Knox Press, the books are the first volumes of the new Old Testament for Everyone series, which follows on the heels of the successful New Testament for Everyone commentaries by N. T. Wright.
Goldingay will be the sole author of the series, which will include a total of 17 volumes with 4 books released each year. “One hundred years ago, it seemed impossible to take the authority of the Word of God seriously and also to take a historical-critical approach to Scripture,” he comments. “I hope to bring those together in this series.” Coming next are volumes on Exodus-Leviticus and Numbers-Deuteronomy in the fall.
As the David Allan Hubbard Professor of Old Testament, Goldingay occupies a professorial chair endowed in the name of Fuller’s longtime president who shared his passion for this significant portion of the Bible. Carrying on Dr. Hubbard’s legacy, Goldingay expertly teaches courses on the three major divisions of the Old Testament—the Pentateuch, the Prophets, and the Writings—as well as Old Testament Ethics, Old Testament Hermeneutics, and the books of Isaiah and Psalms.
We must read Scripture together and in community, Goldingay stresses: “The Bible is the people’s book, not an individual’s book.”
The new Genesis for Everyone releases are available at the Fuller Bookstore.
