On the Cutting Edge of Theological Education

“Fuller has both a national and an international reputation for being on the cutting edge of evangelical education.  I want to be a part of that cutting.” So says Carolyn Gordon, associate professor of communication, as she explains why she chose to join the faculty of Fuller Seminary in 2007.

Gordon brings the kind of professional and pastoral experience that helps make that cutting edge a reality at Fuller. A respected preacher, teacher, and communicator, Gordon is known for her wit, wisdom, spirit, and ability to make clear the Word of God.  Dually ordained by both the Southern and the National Baptist Conventions, she has served extensively in pastoral roles as well as teaching for many years at both the seminary and university levels. Her communications experience is broad, encompassing journalism, public speaking, administration, and work as a television producer and host. At Fuller, Gordon’s research interests focus on communication theology—discerning God’s intentions for the spoken word, preaching to senior adults, preaching to those with disabilities, and vocal development and maintenance of the preaching voice.

“I believe that theological education should actually prepare the minister for ministry,” Gordon emphasizes.  “To do this effectively, the institution must be willing to expand the scope of its mission to encompass the ministerial demands of a changing world. Fuller Seminary does that extremely well.”
