Juan Martínez
Assistant Dean for the Hispanic Church Studies Department
Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies and Pastoral Leadership
Equipping a New Generation of Latino/a Leaders
Juan Martínez was first attracted to Fuller by the seminary’s “clear commitment to forming Latino/a pastors and leaders through the Hispanic Church Studies program,” he says. “It was a privilege for me to join the august line of people who have led this program since 1974.” Having earned both his ThM and PhD at Fuller, Martínez now endeavors to equip his students, in turn, to make an impact on a global scale: “My first passion is understanding the Latino Protestant community and how to develop Latino/a leaders who can effectively serve the community and the world at large,” he explains. “My second passion is helping people understand the opportunities and challenges of intercultural church life in a globalized world.”
Martínez hopes to impart to his students, first, “a clear sense that God is at work in the world” and has invited his people everywhere to join in his mission, and second, a readiness to become “missional leaders who continually develop so that they can effectively serve in the midst of adaptive change.” His dedication to leadership development is both unmistakable and contagious as he provides teaching and guidance to equip a new generation of Latino/a leaders for Christian ministry.
