Juan Nuñez

Rev. Juan Nuñez (MDiv ’02), pastor of Iglesia Bautista Bethel in Bellflower, California, is a self-described missional leader, shepherding a church determined to be an agent of change in its neighborhood. “As a pastor,” he shares, “I try to promote an environment where the congregation’s God-given imagination can grow as we constantly work toward creatively fulfilling God’s mission for our community.”

The church is sensitive to its community’s needs and reaches out in several ways: from providing for the basic needs of struggling immigrants and homeless in the area, to opening its facility as a polling station, to starting up an after-school program. Pastor Nuñez says that working on his degree through Fuller’s Hispanic Center prepared him for such a ministry, commenting that “Fuller’s missional focus on integral transformation at both the local and global levels has been essential to my development as a missional leader.”

Believing that the Hispanic Center “opened a door that would not be opened otherwise” for him, Nuñez states that it is “a vital, indispensable resource for hundreds of Hispanic ministers who desire to prepare themselves as missional leaders in a world of constant change.” He shares that the most rewarding part of his ministry is watching the congregation grow in their concern for the transformation of their community, “with the hope that being the hands and feet of our Lord will help us proclaim and live out his gospel of love.”

Sirviendo a la Iglesia y la Comunidad

El Rev. Juan Núñez (MDiv ´02), pastor de la Iglesia Bautista Bethel en Bellflower, California, se describe a sí mismo como un líder misional, pastoreando una iglesia determinada a ser un agente de cambio en su vencindario.  ¨Como pastor,” comparte, ¨trato de promover un ambiente donde la imaginación dada por Dios a la congregación puede crecer a medida que trabajamos constantemente hacia cumplir de forma creativa la misión de Dios para nuestra comunidad.”

La iglesia es sensible a las necesidades de su comunidad y le sirve en diferentes formas: desde proveer las necesidades básicas de los inmigrantes necesitados y los indigentes del área, a abrir su edificio centro electoral, hasta comenzar programas extracurriculares.  El pastor Núñez dice que su título del Centro Latino de Fuller le preparó para dicho ministerio, comentando que ¨el enfoque misional de Fuller en la transformación integral a nivel local y global ha sido esencial para mi desarrollo como un líder misional.”

Creyendo que el Centro Latino  ¨abrió una puerta que de otra forma no se le hubiera abierto¨  Núñez asegura que es ¨un recurso vital, indispensable para cientos de ministros latinos que desean prepararse como líderes misionales en un mundo de constante cambio.”  Comparte que la parte más gratificante de su ministerio es ver la congregación crecer en su preocupación por la transformación de su comunidad, ¨con la esperanza que siendo las manos y los pies del Señor nos ayudará a proclamar y vivir el evangelio del amor.”
