  • Fall 2012 (Sept 24 - Dec 7)
    • LG512A: Beginning Greek

        This course is a three-quarter sequence designed to give students a foundational knowledge of the essential grammar of New Testament (Koine) Greek, including an introduction to morphology, syntax, and other matters of beginning Greek grammar.

    • NS500: New Testament 1: Gospels and Acts

        This is the first course in the New Testament series [NS500/NS501] that examines the origins, historical and cultural background, theological contributions and distinctives, and intertextual relationships between the four gospels. Special attention will be given to those aspects of the text which are more difficult for the modern reader to understand and the hermeneutical challenges for communicating the message of these texts to others.

    • OT501: Pentateuch

        This course will introduce the content, structure, and theology of the Pentateuch. It will assist students toward developing a holistic strategy for reading the Pentateuch by introducing them to contemporary methods of analysis. Historical, literary, sociological, and comparative anthropological avenues of inquiry will be assessed for their contribution to this strategy.

    • CH502: Medieval and Reformation History

        This survey course will introduce students to the most important themes, movements and people in the history of Christianity from c. A.D. 600 through the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century.

    • ST501: Systematic Theology 1: Theology and Anthropology

        This course is designed to provide a theological understanding of Christian beliefs about (1) the triune God, (2) revelation and Scripture, (3) creation and providence, (4) human beings as the image of God, and (5) the fall, evil, and sin. The course is intended to challenge students to develop and appropriate their own understanding of these topics in the context of their professional preparation. On the basis of biblical and historical developments, a contemporary Evangelical theology will be constructed in dialogue with ecumenical, intercultural, and interreligious perspectives.

    • MD575: Childhood in Global Perspective: Foundations for Mission with Children at Risk

        This course examines variables that influence the way children and youth are viewed, treated, listened to, parented and discipled as they grow up in contemporary societies. It draws from theological, anthropological, sociological, and cross-cultural psychological perspectives. It explores cross-cultural understandings of children and youth, multi-cultural child development, listening and relating to children and youth, cultural stories of children and childhood, and social and political implications for child development, behavior and relationships. Missiological implications for mission and ministry with children and youth, including those at risk, are discussed.
