WHO?

The Master of Arts in Global Leadership (MAGL) brings together in-service Christian leaders from around the world. These leaders join a cohort, or community of learning, in which they teach, learn from, and sharpen one another as they are guided by their professors and TAs.

WHY?
(Purpose) |
The MAGL operates out of a conviction that, just as belief and practice ought not to be separated; neither should theological reflection and missional engagement. In bringing together globally diverse communities of learning, our mission is to come alongside and equip in-service leaders from all parts of the world with transformational graduate education for leadership in their contexts. Our vision is to see more and better missional leaders committed to lifelong learning and biblically-informed communities of practice.

WHEN?
(Timeframe) |
The MAGL is designed to be taken at the rate of one course per quarter in order to accommodate the busy lives of the leaders the program serves. You can anticipate spending approximately 12 hours per week on your studies, and the hours are flexible! The program could be completed in two years by taking more than one course per quarter; though most choose to take four to five years.

WHERE?
(Location) |
The MAGL allows people in Christian leadership to stay fully engaged in their ministries while studying primarily online. You will have opportunity to put your learning into practice immediately! The first ten courses are taken together in a cohort during the first two years of the program – six courses online and four during two, two-week intensives, the first in Colorado Springs, and the second in Pasadena. You may choose to take the remaining eight courses of the program online, although coursework may be also done at the Pasadena or Fuller extension campuses or up to a maximum of four Individualized Distance Learning courses.

WHAT?
(Learning Goals) |
You will learn from highly respected Fuller faculty as well as other students in award-winning distance learning courses. The MAGL is a Western-based degree program which attempts to cultivate a global perspective on the issues and challenges of Christian witness in the world. In these courses you will explore six learning goals relevant to leadership including biblically informed practice, missional church, global diversity, lifelong learning in a diverse community, organizational dynamics, character development; as well as other goals chosen by you.

WHAT FOR?

Immediacy is important to adult learners, and immediate application is important in absorbing and utilizing a new concept or skill. Therefore, all the courses you will take in the MAGL cohort sequence of courses have components of practical application and reflection on practice.

HOW?
(Learning Tasks) |
The MAGL utilizes online and on-campus intensive courses to create a praxis (action/reflection) model of education. The benefit of this approach to theological education is that current ministry practice, the global perspective of cohort colleagues, and course materials converge; resulting in more holistically equipped leaders. Professors and Teaching Assistants function primarily as coaches or guides who provide excellent content and create arenas for learning.

The MAGL is designed to help students develop critical thinking skills, initiative, and resourcefulness. More than this, our central concern is for the formation of Christian leaders. It is our prayer that, as a result of completing this course of study, students will be better equipped to participate in the mission of God in the world as a Christian leader.
