Attention Encountering the World of Islam Students!

If you are planning to take (or are currently taking) the Encountering the World of Islam course and would like to obtain master’s-level credit in the School of Intercultural Studies (SIS) at Fuller Theological Seminary, please follow the below steps.  Pay special attention to the timeframes for completing each step in order to ensure you will be able to complete the entire sequence.

1.  Register for your local EWI class
Please note that in order to gain Fuller credit you must first register to take the EWI class at the site where you are going to take it.  This registration process is separate from and in addition to the Fuller application/registration process.

2.  Look at the Class Requirements
(to be completed at any time before the second week of the class)

See the syllabus on the SIS website that outlines the coursework due at Fuller.  PLEASE NOTE: To gain Fuller credit, you must complete all of the EWI course work plus some additional reading and writing.  Details of this additional work and due dates are included in the syllabus.

3.  Notify the Advising Office
(complete during weeks 1-2 of the EWI course)

If you decide to take the course for Master’s level credit at Fuller, contact Lisa Cleath in the SIS Academic Advising Office to let her know of your interest: 1-800-235-2222 x5639

4.  Apply to Fuller Seminary
(complete during weeks 2-3 of the EWI course)

Go to the Fuller Admissions website in order to apply to Fuller. This step must be completed before a student may register for the course.  Complete and submit the online application according to the posted application requirements.  Please note that applications must be completed at least 30 days before the quarter in which you intend to register (see below for registration quarter guidelines).  For this year's application deadlines, check here.

You will be asked to select a school and a program.  For the school, select the School of Intercultural Studies.  For the program, there are three non-degree options for students who hold a bachelor’s degree and otherwise qualify for admission.

Certificate in Christian Studies: Certificate students may take up to six master’s-level courses (24 units).  Four of the six courses must be taken in the school you’ve been admitted to (Intercultural Studies, Theology, Psychology).  Students complete an Integration Essay when they’ve completed the six courses in order to receive a certificate recognizing this completion.

Limited Enrollment Student: This would enable you to take up to six master’s-level courses (24 units).  No integration essay is required.  No certificate of completion is provided.

Unclassified Student: Permits you to take an unlimited number of master’s-level courses, but not pursue a degree program.

Note 1:  If you do not have an accredited bachelor’s degree, you may be considered for admission as a Special Student.  See details at link below.

Note 2:  If you are a student at another institution and would like to transfer graduate level credit for the EWI course back to your institution, see details for Visiting Student at link below.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email Lisa Cleath (See contact information listed in number 2, above).

5.  Register for the Class

Because Fuller Seminary operates on a quarter system (unlike the EWI course, which was designed for a semester system), students are registered during the quarter in which your EWI course concludes.  Consult the following chart to determine the quarter in which you should register for the Fuller course:

If your EWI course concludes:

You should register in this quarter:

March-May

Spring quarter

June-August

Summer quarter

September-November

Fall quarter

December-February

Winter quarter

For exact application and registration deadlines, please consult our online Academic Calendar.  In each quarter, the final application deadline is the last day identified as “Returning Student Registration” and the final registration deadline is listed on the schedule as “New Student Registration” for that quarter.

To actually register for the course, follow these steps:

1.             Download the Self-Registration Packet from the Registrar’s website at: http://www.fuller.edu/registrar/forms.asp

2.             Forms: Follow the directions in the Self-Registration Packet, which point out the necessary forms.  Everyone will need the following 4 forms:

a.                   Class Request Card – This requests registration in MR591, EWI Directed Study, with your personal information and signature; if you are unsure of some of the course information, you may leave it blank, but make sure to include your personal information with your signature.

b.                  Self-Registration Form – This is a tool for calculating tuition and other costs, using the “TUITION AND RELATED FEES” sheet.  (You can also find out what current tuition is by checking the registrar's "Tuition and Related Fees" page on the website.  Note that this class is a 500-level course within the School of Intercultural Studies.)  You will indicate that you are paying $300 at the time of registration and that you anticipate financial aid for the remainder of your tuition for this class.  This is the amount that the School of Intercultural Studies will be paying on your behalf.  Next to the anticipated financial aid line, please handwrite “SIS EWI Discount.”  Only students taking EWI as their first Fuller course receive this discount.

c.                   Tuition Payment Agreement – This is your commitment to payment of costs (in this case, your cost of $300), completed based on the amounts on the Self-Registration Form.  Please make sure to sign this sheet.

d.                  Student Account Credit Information half-sheet – All first-time Fuller students must complete this.  Student accounts will reflect all charges and all payments made by or on behalf of the student.

e.                   You may ignore all of the student health insurance information, since you are only registering for 4 units at this time.

3.             Payment: Submit payment of the $300 with the packet, by check or credit card (credit card payment form included in Self-Registration Packet). Registration will not be processed without payment.

4.             Send the Self-Registration Packet and payment to the School of Intercultural Studies Academic Advising Office via one of the following three means:

Mail the Self-Registration Packet and payment to:
SIS Academic Advising
attn: Lisa Cleath
135 N. Oakland Ave.
Pasadena, CA  91182

            OR

Fax the Packet to 626-449-5073, attention to Lisa Cleath/EWI registration

            OR

E-mail the Packet by scanning in the completed forms and e-mailing them to Lisa Cleath

5.             Set up a Campus Pipeline account once you are registered; this online account will permit you to see your registration, your grades, and your student account to see that payment has been received.  Your campus pipeline email account is also how your Fuller faculty will contact you.  You are responsible for information on campus pipeline.  A Campus Pipeline account may be created by going to the Fuller homepage and clicking on the Campus Pipeline icon in the lower left-hand side of the page.  The Campus Pipeline login page has an option titled “Sign up Now!” which will direct you through the process to set up your Campus Pipeline account.

6 Complete and Submit All Course Assignments

Note that in order to receive Fuller course credit you will need to complete all of the work assigned in your local EWI course, as well as the additional requirements that are outlined in the syllabus.  All of these items will need to be submitted to Fuller.  The way you submit these items will depend on whether your class is making use of an online portal for submitting assignments.  Please contact the Fuller course grader, as indicated in the syllabus, for details on how you should do this.

Quarter due dates may be found in the Academic Calendar.

7.  Check your Grade and Student Account

Your grade will be posted on Campus Pipeline three weeks after the due date for the course requirements. If you have any questions regarding your grade, contact the faculty member immediately.  You are also responsible to make sure your Student Account has a balance of “$0.00” by this time.  The way to view your grade and student account is by logging on to your Camus Pipeline account (which you set up at the time of your registration) and following the separate links on the right-hand sidebar to your grades and your personal information (which includes your student account).  If you have any questions regarding your grade or balance, please contact the SIS Advising Office at 1-800-235-2222, x5639.

8.  Think about Future Courses

The School of Intercultural Studies offers courses (many in an intensive one or two week format) in cutting-edge areas of world mission.  Stay aware of current SIS courses through the online course schedule, and keep an eye on up-to-date events in SIS through the SIS homepage.  Any time you’re interested in taking another class, you may contact the SIS Academic Advising Office at 1-800-235-2222 x5260
