Doctor of Psychology: Leadership Concentration
(Psy.D. Leadership)

Purpose
This program seeks to provide Christian and secular communities with committed servants who have the character, competence, compassion, and ethics to develop and sustain effective patterns of leadership within sound organizations. The PsyD Leadership concentration prepares graduates to serve in leadership and management of mental health organizations and private practice groups, and as consultants to church and parachurch ministries and community organizations. Expanding on their general training as clinical psychologists, students will draw on an innovative course of study that builds competencies in: clinical treatment, consultation, organizational assessment, leadership, and strategic thinking.

Learning Objectives
    *
Develop specific knowledge and skills in leadership development, organizational systems,
       and mental health delivery systems.
    * Develop solid grounding in the literature of general psychology.
    * Develop competence in utilizing, critiquing, psychological research and conducting
       program evaluations.
    * Develop competent practitioners of clinical psychology.
    * Develop specific knowledge and skills regarding the integrative study of Christian
       theology and the social/behavioral sciences.

Faculty from the Schools of Psychology, Theology, and Intercultural Studies with expertise in leadership will serve as instructors in these course offerings.

Opportunities for dissertation work and practicum placement in leadership and management are available.

 

Doctor of Philosophy: Family Psychology Concentration
(Ph.D. Family)

Purpose
Grounded in a traditional scientist practitioner model, this degree track seeks to prepare men and women for research, scholarship, and clinical practice in the area of family psychology. Graduates will develop specific expertise in ecologically based family systems theory, marital and family therapy, and research relevant to family psychology.

Learning Objectives
    *
Develop specific knowledge and skills in family psychology and family therapy.
    * Develop solid grounding in the literature of general psychology.
    * Develop competence in utilizing, critiquing, and conducting psychological research and
       evaluation methods for couples and families.
    * Develop competent practitioners of clinical psychology.
    * Develop specific knowledge and skills regarding the integrative study of Christian
       theology and the social/behavioral sciences.

Students in the family psychology concentration will be able to draw on the expertise of faculty in both the clinical and marriage and family departments in their coursework and in their master’s and doctoral dissertation research.

Opportunities for practicum placements that include training in adult, child, marital, and family clinical work are available.
