What is required:
All students enrolled in FE501 and FE533 are required to attend three (3) Ministry Enrichment Seminars within the nine months of the FE501 or FE533 internship. The student must physically attend all three of these seminars.
How to receive credit for attending Ministry Enrichment Seminars:
To receive credit you must:
- Complete the Seminar Response Sheet and submit it as instructed on the form.
- Submit your Response Sheet within the same quarter you attend the seminar. Response Sheets submitted for seminars attended in previous quarters will not be accepted for credit.
- Credit for a Ministry Enrichment Seminar is based on attendance at the entire seminar. Therefore, you will not receive credit for attending a Ministry Enrichment Seminar if you arrive more than 10 minutes late or choose to leave earlier than the scheduled end time. Late or partial attendance prohibits your ability to take full advantage of the benefits of the seminar, is disrespectful to the presenter and disruptive to other participants.

Field Education Seminars are sponsored by the Office of Field Education in the School of Theology. All seminars are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. No RSVP's are required. Contact the Office of Field Education for further information about Field Education seminars or opportunities.
Summer Quarter 2008
Title: Got Boundaries? Setting and Maintaining Boundaries to Protect and Improve Your Life and Ministry.

- Description: No boundaries, weak boundaries or unhealthy boundaries can ruin you! Healthy boundaries can free you! Come learn the biblical and psychological basis for boundary-setting and begin to experience the benefits of healthy boundary-setting. Come to hear: HOW to set, monitor, & maintain good boundaries; WHAT to expect from others when you set a boundary; and WHEN to adjust or strengthen your boundaries.
Title: Leading from the Middle: Challenges and Opportunities in the Associate Pastor’s Call

- Description: In the current church culture, associate pastors have unprecedented opportunities to be agents of change, but also face significant challenges in a highly politicized environment. In this seminar we will explore three key areas of associate ministry: understanding the different types of authority from which an associate works; forging a healthy relationship with the head pastor; and developing a theology of servant discipleship within the church system.
Title: Hospital Chaplains: The Wounded Healers

- Description: Come hear an experienced hospital chaplain and current chaplain interns discuss the particular ministry challenges presented by hospital chaplaincy, day-to-day duties, emotional/spiritual challenges and growth, as well as the personal enrichment this hospital internship offers anyone planning a future in ministry.
Title: Spiritual Care at the End of Life
- Presenter: Rev. Dr. Phil Carlson
- Time: Thursday, August 14, 2008, 1:00pm-3:00pm
- Place: Geneva Room
- Description: One of the most difficult challenges for ministers is how to provide effective spiritual care for people at the end of life. Dr. Carlson, who is both a medical doctor and a pastor, will discuss how you can prepare yourself to provide effective care not only for those who are facing death, but for their families as well. He will also address how you can understand your own feelings about death and dying, and how those feelings may impact the care you give to others. Finally, he will provide some guidance on how to prepare a funeral or memorial service.

Title: Faith-Based Conflict Transformation
- Presenter: Team from Christiam Empowering Others for Reconciliation with Justice (CERJ)

- Description: This is a basic skills training workshop that provides an introductory exposure to the various concepts and dynamics of conflict. It is designed to help participants begin to develop personal peacemaking and conflict transformation skills. Exercises and role-play scenarios provide interactive skills application.
Title: Legal Issues in Church Counseling
- Presenter: Mr. Dennis Kasper
- Time: TBA
- Place: TBA
- Description: Your counseling work can expose you and your churches to very significant liability. This seminar will explore how liability arises, and in particular, the exposure to liability arising from sexual misconduct during counseling, the rules for handling confidential information, when to report child abuse and other reporting obligations. We will talk about the use of liability and medical release forms, and perhaps insurance. Finally, we will discuss some practical steps to address a crisis in the church, such as a child abuse allegation, when one arises.
- Presenter: Panel of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Students and Supervisors
- Time: Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 11:00am-1:00pm
- Place:Payton 101
- Description: Join us for a panel discussion with students who have recently completed a CPE experience in hospital chaplaincy. Talk one-on-one with local CPE supervisors and learn about the CPE hospital sites and programs. Lunch will be provided.
Title: Thinking Theologically About Money
- Presenter: Dr. Scott Cormode; Professor of Leadership Development

- Description:Pastors are called to preach about the things that keep people awake at night. And nothing worries people more than money. Most sermons about money are theologically suspect. Dr. Cormode will help you come up with new ways to preach and think with your people about money.
Click here for the online catalog of past seminars on CD and DVD in the McAlister Library. Once you have accessed the online catalog, type Ministry Enrichment Seminar in the General Keyword search field. After you have identified the seminar of your preference by its call number, ask for the CD or DVD at the circulation desk.
Seminars on CD and DVD are only for personal enrichment. To get Ministry Enrichment Seminar credit you must attend the seminar in person.
For personal enrichment, students have the option of accessing past ministry enrichment seminars. Listening to seminars on Moodle, does not meet the seminar requirements for FE501/FE533.
Procedures for Setting Up and Accessing a Moddle Account:
1. Type on your browser: http://moodle.fuller.edu (do not use www).
2. Click on course Ministry Enrichment Seminars FE501
3. Follow the steps below to create a new account. (If you are already enrolled in Moodle for another course, you do not need to enroll again. Skip to Step "f" below after login).
a. Fill out the New Account form with your details.
b. Please use the same username as in your Campus Pipeline.
c. An email will be immediately sent to your email address.
d. Read your email and click on the web link it contains.
e. Your account will be confirmed and you will be logged in.
f. Select the course you want to participate in: Ministry Enrichment Seminar FE501.
g. When you are prompted for an enrollment key type 50102.
4. To download audio/video files of seminars click on Connect to iTunesUon the upper right hand corner of your Moodle account page.
5. On your iTunes program click on the iTunes Store on the left hand panel. For MES, click on the Field Education Seminars icon to see the listing and to select your seminar. You can move between the audio and video tabs to view either list.
6. If you have issues connecting Moodle on Mozilla Firefox to iTunes, we advice you to try a different browser (Safari or Internet Explorer). You may also call Parimal Roy (626-584-5595), fe-advisor2@dept.fuller.edu in the Field Education Office for help.
