This course focuses on the skills required to speak and comprehend fluent English in an academic setting. These skills include listening comprehension, note-taking, clarity in pronunciation, and group communication. Material is presented in conjunction with the content of a specified Individualized Distance Learning (IDL) course.

• Develop skills for listening to a lecture in English
• Develop skills for taking notes from a lecture in English
• Gain experience using new English words and phrases in academic discussions and presentations

The class will provide a variety of opportunities for students to develop the listening and speaking skills necessary for success in an academic setting. Students will take notes while listening to lectures, participate in group discussions, and practice pronunciation.

Students will do a variety of speaking and listening activities which range from listening to lecture tapes to making individual presentations.

Students must be concurrently registered in a specified IDL course.
