DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide an opportunity for students to work closely with the instructor to refine writing skills presented in the Academic Research & Writing course.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1.  Provide opportunities for students to practice and refine English writing skills for graduate-level writing.
2.  Demonstrate understanding of the process of writing and various writing styles in the production of academic writing.
3.  Support writing for assignments in IDL and Academic Research & Writing.

 

COURSE FORMAT:

This class meets twice weekly for two-hour sessions.  Class time will be spent reviewing academic writing skills and producing academic writing. Students will focus on writing assignments required for the specified IDL course.

 

REQUIRED READING: None.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments for the Academic Research & Writing course are the basis for the coursework. EL513 students will complete the course goals and assignments for Academic Research & Writing and that quarter’s IDL course.

 

PREREQUISITES:

Students must be concurrently registered in both EL514 Academic Research & Writing and a specified IDL course.

 

RELATIONSHIP TO CURRICULUM: Meets partial requirements to advance from the ESL Program.

 

FINAL EXAM: ESL Exit Exam.
