Bio

Dr. Charlene Underhill Miller is a licensed marriage and family therapist, educator, writer, and lecturer. In her private practice, Dr. Miller assists individuals, couples, and children with a wide range of issues, including relational difficulties, recovery from loss, abuse, and trauma, as well as the pursuit of happiness and personal growth. Her doctoral dissertation focused on the treatment of sexual trauma. With winsome insights, Dr. Miller is able to address the entire life cycle – from resolving one’s own childhood experiences, to the many challenges of parenting, to the loss of a job or a spouse, to caring for aging parents and facing one’s own limitations and mortality. She is a popular public speaker to academic circles, community organizations and church groups.

Dr. Miller has taught at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education & Psychology, Fuller School of Psychology, and Azusa Pacific University’s Graduate School of Psychology for nearly three decades. Long active in the community, she was a founding member of Pepperdine’s Friends of the Family League and the co-founder, former clinical director, and current advisory board member of the Malibu Wellness Center. Dr. Miller also serves on the Board of Directors of the Wellness and Prevention Center, which provides free mental health services and drug diversion programs for children and youth in south Orange County. Dr. Miller served as a mental health consultant on A&E’s top-rated program, Hoarders, a contributing author to the 2013 book Stuff Your Face or Face Your Stuff, and lead writer for ContentWatch, Zift, and Net Nanny, on-line publishers of parenting resources.

Dr. Miller earned masters and doctoral degrees in Marital and Family Therapy from the School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary and has a B.A. in psychology from UCLA. A wife, mother, and stepmother , Dr. Miller makes her home in Monarch Beach, California with her husband and their black Labrador Retriever.
