Bio

Stephen R. Haynes is A. B. Curry Professor of Religious Studies and director of the Liberal Arts in Prison Program at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he has taught since 1989.

Publications

Dr. Haynes is the author or editor of 14 books, including The Bonhoeffer Phenomenon: Portraits of a Protestant Saint (2004), Noah’s Curse: The Biblical Justification of American Slavery (2002), The Last Segregated Hour: The Memphis Kneel-Ins and the Campaign for Southern Church Desegregation (2012), and The Battle for Bonhoeffer: Debating Discipleship in the Age of Trump (2018). His most recent book is titled Why Can’t the Church Be More Like AA and Other Questions Asked by People in Recovery (2021).
