Here are the following requirements for an apprenticeship supervisor:

• Minimum of three years in a related full-time leadership position, post-theological training
• Minimum of one year in current position
• Formal theological training such as Bible college or seminary-level theological education
• Spend at least one hour per week in a one-on-one setting with the apprentice in theological reflection, prayer, planning, and evaluation
• Commitment to completing required assignments in a timely manner (includes completion of the Apprenticeship Proposal, Learning Agreement, and evaluation of the apprentice’s work at the end of each quarter)
• Commitment to providing a structure that is challenging, educational, and supportive, and to assure the participation of the church or institution in the apprenticeship

No, we do not have a sample job description. We encourage supervisors to meet with their students to outline expectations, as well as their tasks and responsibilities, through the Apprenticeship Proposal (which will be provided by the apprenticeship student). The apprenticeship only requires a minimum of 11 hours a week, so the job description should reflect the amount of hours that the student and supervisor agree upon.

It is not required that the apprenticeship be a paid experience, but we encourage sites to provide compensation if capable. Providing compensation demonstrates the site’s value of the student’s work, and is a way to invest in the student’s ability to complete their studies, work, and engage in ministry at the same time.

Yes, as a potential supervisor you must first fill out our Apprenticeship Supervisor Application in order to be approved. This will be sent directly to your email, once your student fills out the Apprenticeship Student Application. Once you are approved you will work with the student as they complete their Apprenticeship Proposal. This will highlight the structure, goals, and responsibilities of their upcoming Apprenticeship. You will sign a Learning Agreement at the end of this proposal. Due to the pandemic, we also require that supervisors digitally sign our new COVID-19 policy so that we can ensure the student’s safety at the site. Lastly, at the end of each quarter the supervisor must fill out an online supervisor evaluation for their student.

Yes, the apprenticeship can be completely remote and we recommend that sites follow orders and restrictions put in place by the CDC and their local and state officials.
