Three steps begin your journey toward the Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy program at Fuller: (1) familiarize yourself with the program, (2) learn about admission requirements, and (3) submit your application.

DMFT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

What are the requirements to be a candidate for admission to Fuller Theological Seminary’s Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy program?

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Online application opens: August 1
Early online application and file completion deadline: December 15

Note: Incomplete applications will be processed for the final application deadline (see below)

Final online application and file completion deadline: February 1

Please allow ample time to submit a completed application (including all references, transcripts, TOEFL, and/or IELTS Academic Format score[s], and supplementary materials) by the December 1 deadline.

Application for Admission

Complete and submit the Application for Admission.

Reference Forms

Within the Application for Admission, you will be prompted to list three references:
You must provide one (1) reference from a pastor or denominational leader, one (1) professional reference, AND one (1) reference that is either academic or professional.

Essay Responses

Once you have completed the Application for Admission, you will be prompted to upload and submit your essay responses to the following questions to the application portal.

    • Religious Autobiography
      • Reflect on your past Christian experience, including the most significant spiritual event/influence in your life, the role of Christ in your religious experience, your involvement in Christian service, and your reason(s) for attending your church. (minimum 250 words; maximum 500 words)
      • Your response should convey an accurate, current representation of yourself, your Christian experiences, and the relationship of future life goals to your study at Fuller. It will also serve as a writing sample to assist the Admissions Committee in determining academic potential and possible scholarship eligibility.
    • Statement of Purpose
      • Please answer each item, briefly (between 200–300 words) yet thoroughly.
        1. How will the Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy degree help you better fulfill your career goals, clinical work, and consulting emphasis?
        2. Describe your current clinical experience and interest.
        3. Describe how the program would help you sharpen your current work as well as parts of the program that would expand your knowledge and expertise.
        4. Include your thoughts, interest, and imagination of how spirituality integrates with your current or desired work

Official Transcripts

Submit official transcripts from ALL post-secondary schools attended, including a transcript showing an MA or MS in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field earned from an accredited institution, with a cumulative master’s degree grade point average of 3.0 or above

Proof of Active Licensure

Applicants must provide proof of active licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or related mental health licensure, including: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Current Resume

You are encouraged to submit a formal vita or résumé along with your application. If you need assistance preparing a vita, you may find these vitae tips from the APA to be helpful. Application Fee

Early application deadline (December 15): The application fee will be waived if you submit the application online by December 15.

Final application deadline (February 1): $75 non-refundable application fee for online applications submitted between December 16 and February 1. You may pay your application fee online with a US credit card, PayPal, check, money order, or international bank transfer.

English Language Requirements

If your native language is not English or your medium of instruction for all postsecondary education is not English, you must either submit a test score of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the past two years or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Format, taken within the past two years. Interview

At the Admissions Committee’s discretion, applicants may be required to interview with program representatives through an online platform.

COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

Notification Dates
Applicants are notified of admission decisions, in most cases, around four weeks following the completion of an application file. Some programs require that an enrollment deposit be paid within 30 days of notification of acceptance. The enrollment deposit will be applied toward the first quarter's tuition and is nonrefundable.
