Recent Lectures

“Since we live in an age when economy and politics transcend national borders, it stands for us to ask what the scope of our ethical responsibility is now more than ever before. . . . We must yield to the plurality of perceptions and experiences. A genuinely globally minded church must incorporate a diversity of principles and views.”

Bio

Kyong-Jin Lee joined Fuller’s School of Theology faculty in 2011. Dr. Lee’s research is at the intersection of Old Testament studies and international political theory. She investigates the role of fear, insecurity, and crisis in the development of the moral and political landscape, and how it extends to the contemporary context of globalization.

Lee grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, as a missionary daughter. Her research focuses on political theology of climate change, crisis management, logic of the apocalypse, biopolitics of security, socioeconomics, and hermeneutics. She is currently pursuing a PhD in international relations at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

She is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, Society for Old Testament Study, Society of Christian Ethics, Societas Ethica, Catholic Biblical Association, Association for Political Theory, International Political Science Association, and International Studies Association. She is a US Army Reserve Captain serving as a chaplain.

Lee is interested in supervising doctoral students in political, social, and ecological readings of the Old Testament. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact her directly to discuss the program and their areas of particular interest. General information about the program may be found here.
