About Alexis
I have always felt a draw toward justice and generosity. Experiencing life as a mixed-Hispanic woman continues to emphasize that these pursuits are not only are theoretical and academic, but practical and personal as well. My upbringing in southern Oklahoma, affectionately referred to as the buckle of the Bible belt, provided a space for me to come to know Jesus at an early age, marking the beginning of my faith and discipleship journey. After completing my undergraduate education, I worked as a state social worker while studying social justice and organizational leadership at the graduate level at the University of Oklahoma. Following over a decade of lay service in my home congregations, I felt the call to attend seminary where I received a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. My current research focuses on philanthropic redlining and how the phenomenon affects minoritized leaders of faith-based nonprofit organizations.
