PASADENA WIND AND FIRE RESOURCES

We rejoice that the Los Angeles wildfires, including the Eaton fire, are now fully contained. We are thankful for the first responders and their tireless efforts over the course of the more than three weeks that the fires raged on. While relief efforts and the work to rebuild local communities will be a long-term process, Fuller’s Wind and Fire Recovery team—an extension of our Health and Safety Committee—will continue to meet and provide up-to-date information, resources, and help to our students, staff, and faculty. The team can be reached at [email protected].

Please continue monitoring local guidance on repopulation updates and health and safety advisories for those in affected areas. See below for updates and announcements, student and employee information, opportunities to donate, and other resources.

UPDATES ON CAMPUS RE-OPENING AND RECOVERY

The Pasadena campus resumed in-person classes and operations on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 (with adjustments being made for faculty, staff, and students, as needed)

  • Redistributed air purifiers and ordered new ones
    • Additional air purifiers will be distributed once they arrive
  • Changed air filters in buildings

    • These are available for everyone in our Fuller community and can be picked up at the Welcome Center or the Housing Office

    • More masks can be picked up at the Welcome Center, SOPMFT front desk, and the Housing Office, and by calling Campus Safety at (626) 584-5444

  • Chaplains made calls and sent texts to impacted members of our community
  • Chaplains held check-in sessions with housing residents, with meals hosted by Student Life

  • Student life and OFA have processed many Need-Based Grants for students who have been impacted by the disaster
  • An Internal Fuller Aid for Wildfire Recovery (mutual aid) spreadsheet was created so community members can request or offer services and resources to one another
  • Sent the Fires and Windstorms Check-In survey to assess the impact and determine needs; survey submissions are still welcome

What's Ahead

  • An application and method for fairly distributing emergency support will be shared.
  • Keep an eye out for additional support from the Chaplain Team, including more residential check-ins with meals, library “office hours,” and grief support groups.
  • The Fuller Psychological and Family Services clinic is available to support Fuller and the local communities. Please contact the clinic at 626-584-5555 to learn more.

Student Housing Information

In the aftermath of the Eaton fire, we recognize the challenges posed by the lingering smoke smells, ash, and/or debris in Fuller Student Housing. Please know that we are fully aware of these concerns and are actively working to address them. In the meantime, we want to highlight the steps Fuller is taking to support affected residents:

  • Fuller’s Office of Student Life has compiled a Fuller Southern California Wind and Wildfire Resource List for those who have been affected by the fire. We encourage all residents to look through the list and use applicable information as needed.
  • The Housing Office has been working to accommodate requests to temporarily move into Chang housing where availability and space allows it.
  • HEPA air purifiers have been provided upon request to help improve indoor air quality for affected residents.
  • The Rogers room in Chang Commons is open from 8:00 am–11:00 pm as a common area to provide an alternative space for residents
  • The Housing Office is providing surgical and KN95 masks for affected residents in Ford, Jubilee, and Chang Commons.
  • Fuller’s Housing Office has extended the deadline for January rent payments to January 24, 2025.
  • Fuller is partnering with ABM Janitorial Services for professional cleaning of student housing. ABM has been onsite beginning Thursday, January 16th.

We are also aware that Fuller residents had concerns over water quality. We have been in direct communication with Pasadena Water and Power, which has confirmed extensive water quality testing indicates Fuller housing units are not affected by the Do Not Drink notice. The Housing Office also has bottled water and snacks available to residents.

Mental Health Services and Spiritual Care

Students can visit TimelyCare or Fuller Psychological and Family Services for mental health and therapeutic services.

Students can also connect with a seminary chaplain or schedule a time to meet.
