Three steps begin your journey toward the Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy program at Fuller: (1) familiarize yourself with the program, (2) learn about admission requirements, and (3) submit your application.
DMFT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
What are the requirements to be a candidate for admission to Fuller Theological Seminary’s Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy program?
APPLICATION DEADLINES
Online application opens: August 1
Early online application and file completion deadline: January 15
Note: Incomplete applications will be processed for the final application deadline (see below)
Final online application and file completion deadline: March 15
Please allow ample time to submit a completed application (including all references, transcripts, TOEFL, and/or IELTS Academic Format score[s], and supplementary materials) by the January 15 deadline.

Complete and submit the Application for Admission.
Reference Forms
Within the Application for Admission, you will be prompted to list three references:
You must provide one (1) reference from a pastor or denominational leader, one (1) professional reference, AND one (1) reference that is either academic or professional.
Essay Responses
Once you have completed the Application for Admission, you will be prompted to upload and submit your essay responses to the following questions to the application portal.

- Personal/Spiritual Autobiography. Word count should be between 300-500 words.
- Reflect on who you are and your formation as a Christian and a therapist, including significant spiritual events/influences in your life, your relationship with Christ, your involvement in Christian service, and your relationship with the/your church.
- Your response should convey an accurate, current representation of yourself and your experiences.
- Statement of Purpose. Please answer each of the 2 prompts; word count for each prompt should be between 300-500 words, totaling no more than 1000 words for essay #2.
- Why are you interested in pursuing a Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy degree at this time and how will the DMFT degree help you fulfill your career goals and live into your sense of calling?
- Describe your current clinical experiences and interests and the communities or contexts you feel drawn to serve. How do you envision the DMFT program sharpening your current work and deepening your systemic knowledge and cultural humility?
- Academic writing sample. Please attach an academic writing sample. This would typically be a paper written in APA format that you have previously written. If you do not have an academic writing sample, you may write an APA-style, 2-4 page double-spaced academic response to one of these 2 articles.
- Personal/Spiritual Autobiography. Word count should be between 300-500 words.
Official Transcripts
Submit official transcripts from ALL post-secondary schools attended, including a transcript showing an MA or MS in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field earned from an accredited institution, with a cumulative master’s degree grade point average of 3.0 or above
Proof of Active Licensure
Applicants must provide proof of active licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or related mental health licensure, including: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Active licensure means that the applicant is able to practice independently and is not under clinical supervision.

Application Fee
Early application deadline (January 15): The application fee will be waived if you submit the application online by January 15.
Final application deadline (March 15): $75 non-refundable application fee for online applications submitted between January 15 and March 15. You may pay your application fee online with a US credit card, PayPal, check, money order, or international bank transfer.
English Language Requirements
If your native language is not English or your medium of instruction for all postsecondary education is not English, you must either submit a test score of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the past two years or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Academic Format, taken within the past two years. Interview
At the Admissions Committee’s discretion, applicants may be required to interview with program representatives through an online platform.

Notification Dates
Applicants with complete applications are notified of admission decisions, in most cases, around six weeks following the relevant application deadline. Some programs require that an enrollment deposit be paid within 30 days of notification of acceptance. The enrollment deposit will be applied toward the first quarter's tuition and is nonrefundable.
