Fuller Theological Seminary’s Brehm Center Announces Gallery Event: “Mothering the Image of God in Others”
Fuller Theological Seminary’s Brehm Center today announced the gallery event, “Mothering the Image of God in Others,” scheduled for Thursday, September 21, 2023. This evening promises an engaging exploration of the power of mothering within and beyond the family, through live performances, artist talks, and a thought-provoking panel discussion.
The event will kick off at 4:00 PM PDT with a Brehm Center Open House led by Executive Director Shannon Sigler. Following the open house, at 5:30 PM, artist Lanecia Rouse will share insights into her creative process and art-making rituals at the 509 Walnut Gallery on Fuller’s campus.
A break for dinner will provide attendees the opportunity to dine at nearby restaurants such as Lucky Boy and California Pizza Kitchen, or they are welcome to bring their own meals.
The evening’s program will continue with a live performance by artist Allyson Darakjian at 7:05 PM in the 509 Walnut Gallery space. Finally, at 8:00 PM, a panel discussion moderated by Shannon Sigler will take place in Travis Auditorium (180 N Oakland) featuring all three artists: Lanecia Rouse, Allyson Darakjian, and Suzy Yoon. Together, they will delve into what it means to mother, even in the absence of traditional motherhood.
The event will also feature a special traveling exhibition inspired by Mary, the mother of Jesus, displayed in Travis Auditorium and the 509 Walnut Gallery.
President David Emmanuel Goatley shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Aesthetic theology is an important way of exploring how God reveals insights to the human family. Artists approach life from various angles, invite us to reimagine often rehearsed concepts, and challenge us to imagine new possibilities. This event promises to stir imaginations and stimulate conversations. For this, we rejoice as an institution of higher theological education.”
Attendance at any part of the evening is welcome, and all event locations are a convenient 5-minute walk from one another, situated on the beautiful campus of Fuller Seminary in Pasadena.
