PhD Student, Practical Theology

About Corey

I am a second-year PhD student concentrating on practical theology with an emphasis on the Black Church. I work as the Director of Church Planting Content and Partnerships for Fuller’s Church Planting Initiative. I am married to Jade and have four beautiful children. For the last 20 years, I have equipped leaders and planted churches near Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I earned a B.S. from Hampton University and an MDiv from Fuller. Being raised in the Black Church and shaped by experiences of church planting in a non-denominational network of churches, I have developed a deeper appreciation for the role of the Black Church in the Black community and beyond. While completing my MDiv, I discerned a call to serve with one foot in the academy and one in the church. I hope to combine my academic acumen with my practical ministry experience to shape the next generation of church leaders, celebrate the legacy of the Black Church, and reimagine its missional ecclesiology.
