Fuller Theological Seminary Has cancelled the
In-person Commencement Ceremony; an Alternative is under consideration
Fuller has made the difficult and unfortunate decision to cancel an in-person commencement in June 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The safety of our graduates, their family and friends, and the Fuller community is our foremost priority and the risk of an in-person commencement during a pandemic was too great.
Based on the survey results from our graduates' preferences for alternative commencement options, we will be working toward an in-person commencement as soon as the Safer at Home orders are lifted and the COVID-19 pandemic has abated. The most recent indications are that this is unlikely to occur any sooner than Thanksgiving, and even then, we can't be sure how soon it will be safe to gather so large a group. As soon as a time and date are selected we will notify all graduates of those details. Any graduate eligible for Commencement 2020 who wishes to participate in Commencement 2021 is welcome to do so. We will confirm those plans in April 2021, but graduates can inform us of their wishes now if they like.
There will be a special tribute to Fuller's graduates on June 13, 2020 at 10:00am PST, broadcast on fuller.edu/watch. This recognition—for which you do not need to be present—is one we feel necessary to honor our graduates, their families, and friends. Graduates' names will also be included, for the first time in Fuller's history, in the digital version of FULLER magazine.
